Further updates on the Missouri report on militias and fusion center privacy abuses

Everyone,
I've been doing serious research on the implications of that MIAC report on militias and fusion center operations with respect to privacy and civil liberties.

New stuff you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere:

Spanking Angela Keaton, or why the LNC's own attorney is charging them more

Everybody in Libertarian circles has been taking notice of the announcement in the Libertarian National Committee agenda for the upcoming San Diego meeting that the LNC intends to take 30 minutes for the discipline of Angela Keaton.

For those who don't remember (or never gave a rat's butt), Angela got in hot water for supposedly live-blogging about hush-hush discussions in an LNC Executive Session, and (oh yes!) for giving web-based expression to a few passing, whimsical--perhaps even satirical--sexual fantasies about the hired help.

Notes on the Libertarian re-framing of American History (2)

This is the second part of my rough draft reframing of American history.

This one deals with the Corporation, and it is important to note that my take on Corporations in relation to the State is profoundly individualistic and may not be shared by any number of other Libertarians.

Nonetheless, in the interest of provoking discussion rather than trying to convince everybody to see things my way, here it is [but you really should read Part 1 first):

The Corporation is the natural (if often unwitting) tool of the State in the agglomeration of greater power.

Notes on the Libertarian re-framing of American History

Progressive theorist and political activist George Lakoff has had a major role in changing public political discourse in the last 10-12 years, with his concept of framing. Lakoff argues that the language we use to hold discussions--the conceptual frames we provide for issues--are more important in terms of swaying voters than the facts.

Which is, I think, one major variable in the process of people accepting the state as the arbiter of policy and destiny.

An Initial Proposal for the Gallatin Project

Most Libertarians are aware of Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin, who is obviously one of our spiritual ancestors.

Dear Jason--Just flip a damn coin, please

... and do it tonight.

The BTP needs to get a move on.

Age and the BTP elections

The issue of the age of several BTP candidates either running for national office or At-Large positions on the national committee has been raised in several venues within the last 24 hours, including Last Free Voice.

The BTP (rightly, I think) does not discriminate on the basis of age either for membership or running for office. That's in keeping with the Libertarian idea that individuals should be judged as individuals, not as representatives of any particular group. It is also at the heart of the debate much earlier this year over Mary Ruwart's position on age-of-consent laws.

Some convention thoughts

I'm excited about the convention kicking off, and I have a few thoughts to share:

Why elect a Delaware Libertarian to the National Committee?

The BTP convention is this weekend; I’ll be checking in between my daughter’s soccer games and the World Series. Your life and participation will probably be equally divided, so I’m going to make my strongest pitch now for your support for my candidacy for an At-Large National Committee seat, and hope you remember.

Where do we go from here?

Two days ago I was actively discussing with the leadership of the Libertarian Party of Delaware the possibility of disaffiliating en masse with the LP in order to come over to the BTP. I have that much had it with the LNC model for ruining the Libertarian movement.

Today I find myself wondering about the BTP's long-term prospects for survival.
