Poll is still open!
To any members who may have attempted to vote in the secretarial poll between about 3:15 and 3:50 Eastern Time: Due to a time zone misunderstanding, the poll was shut down an hour early. It is open now and will be open until 4:14 Eastern Time. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I feel that we should leave the poll open an extra 35 minutes to make up for the lost time, and close the poll at 4:50. I ask that Tom and Jim not touch the poll and allow me to close it at the appropriate time.
planetaryjim:
Perhaps you ought to ask the human candidate if he agrees to having the poll open for another 35 minutes. That would at least be courteous.
If you can show anywhere in the server logs that anyone tried to vote during those minutes, please do. I looked, and saw none.
Nobody voted in the time when Tom re-opened the poll. So, where is the evidence that anyone else was inclined to vote?
inDglass:
Nevermind, the auto-closing feature apparently decided to work this time.
VTV:
It is too late now. This poll should be declared invalid.
admin:
VTV,
You are a member of the national committee, so you're free to call for that committee to invalidate the election.
Or, as a member, you and four others could appeal the matter directly to the membership.
Have at.
planetaryjim:
Shouldn't we find at least some evidence in the logs that someone had visited the page for this poll during the time it was mistakenly closed? I don't see any such footprints.
If there were people clamoring to vote during the missing minutes, where are they? Shouldn't they be voting, now?
admin:
Jim,
A reasonable point, which the committee may consider if there's a motion seconded to invalidate the poll.
I closed the poll within a second or two of my computer clock (recently updated from an Internet time server) telling me that it was 13:14 Central, which is 14:14 Eastern.
I won't be deleting this blog entry -- it's material to any subsequent arguments concerning the poll -- but I will be moving it off the front page.
