Tea Party response to President Obama's 100 day Press Conference
I know it's normally only the State of the Union Address that gets an “opposition” reply, but President Obama's 100 day Press Conference deserves a REAL response.
President Obama began by stating that he would throw $1.5 billion at “solving” a flu “problem” that is not near as severe as the “regular flu”. I honestly believe that he will use this “pandemic” as a tool to further push his “universal health care” agenda.
The budget that he is so proud of and calls a “blueprint” for the future will do nothing but continue to increase government spending and increase the size and power of the Federal government.
The President also congratulated Congress on passing a “stimulus” package that he claims will allow the country to spend it's way out of debt; this is absolutely absurd. The President needs to urge Congress to restore honest money, not enable the Federal Reserve to create more money, which will only continue driving the country further in debt.
He also claims to have made a change in the nation's foreign policy; however, this “change” appears to be “more of the same”. Military personnel remain located in over 130 nations across the globe, with active military conflicts in two separate countries and the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility remains open – this isn't “change”.
We MUST restore honest money, reduce government spending and bring our military home, if we are to once again be a great nation.
The President was asked, “On the domestic auto industry, have you determined that bankruptcy is the only option to restructure Chrysler? And do you believe that the deep cuts in plant closings that were outlined this week by General Motors are sufficient?”
It is not and should not be the business of the government to interfere in how, when or why a company decides to file for bankruptcy. The government should allow businesses to succeed or fail on their own merit without government intervention. President Obama claims, “I don't want to run auto companies. I don't want to run banks. I've got two wars I've got to run already...and that's why I'm always amused when I hear these...criticisms of,"Oh, you know, Obama wants to grow government." No. I would love a nice, lean portfolio to deal with, but that's not the hand that's been dealt us.” I don't believe a word of it. If he truly didn't want the government to be involved in the auto industry or the banking industry, he could have withheld funding and allowed the market to correct itself and bad businesses to fail. He didn't do this. While in Congress he voted FOR the bill to give taxpayer funding to the banks; as President, he has allowed taxpayer money to be given to the auto industry and has outlined a federal budget that increases government spending to nearly $4 trillion, this doesn't appear to be a “nice, lean” government that he claims he wants.
He was also asked, “You've said in the past that waterboarding, in your opinion, is torture. Torture is a violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. Do you believe that the previous administration sanctioned torture?”
During World War 2 it was said, “I was just following orders” wasn't a valid excuse; I don't believe that has changed. I don't know if the order to use waterboarding came from former-President Bush or not, however, this is something that should be investigated and the person responsible for the decision to use torture techniques should be help accountable.
Another question asked of the President that needs to be addresses was, “Pakistan appears to be at war with the Taliban inside their own country. Can you reassure the American people that if necessary America could secure Pakistan's nuclear arsenal and keep it from getting into the Taliban's hands or, worst case scenario, even al-Qaeda's hands?”
The United States military is not and should not be used as “world's police force”, this “Pakistan/Taliban” war is between those two entities and U.S. military should not intervene.
In short, the President that was elected on a promise of “hope” and “change” has, after 100 days left the American people “hoping for change”. The President and Congress need to once again follow the Constitution and reign in excessive spending, wasteful spending and unconstitutional spending. Our military personnel should be brought home from the 130 plus nations around the globe. The government should stop interfering in the lives of individuals, private business and the affairs of other nations.
