Nominations for National Committee Officers

Per the BTP's bylaws, Article 8, section c:

Prior to the beginning of the Party's organizational convention, and on January 1st of the year of each subsequent regular national convention, notice of elections to these offices shall be published on the Party's web site and nominations shall be opened, to be made through the appended comments form. All candidates who are nominated by two or more members of the Party, and who accept the nomination (also through the comments form) prior to the opening of the convention shall be listed on a poll on the Party's web site as soon as practicable after the opening of the convention, with one poll for each office to be filled. This poll shall include the option "None of the Above" (hereinafter referred to as "NOTA"). This poll shall run in 24-hour cycles. At the end of each cycle, if any candidate has polled a majority of voting members, he or she shall be declared the winner of the office. If no candidate has achieved a majority, and if NOTA has likewise not achieved a majority, the poll will be renewed with the candidate receiving the fewest votes on the previous iteration removed.

This is the official space for nomination to the office of Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary. Please pursue all discussion other than nominations, seconds and acceptances/statements of non-acceptance in the general forum.

I second the nomination for Brandi Duncan for Secretary.

I accept the nomination.

DanKilo:

I nominate Dan Kilo (Sallis) for the position of vice-chairman. I was the Vice Presidential candidate in Colorado in 2008. I am running for Governor in Colorado for 2010.

inDglass:

I second the nomination.

Are you putting the Boston Tea Party as your part on the ballot for governor?

DanKilo:

I'm unclear as to how that is actually done. Will that require a petition? Currently, I am seeking the LP nomination along with 2 other candidates. In the next few days I will update my site, http://www.dankilo.com, in the next few days. I'll also keep the BTP going in Colorado and try to expand it. Thank you for the second.

inDglass:

I know Colorado only requires a filing fee to be on the Presidential ballot. I'm not sure about other statewide offices. Check the Secretary of State's web site.

You may also want to check if there is a law in Colorado against running for office under another party after failing to earn a party's nomination. If it is allowed, you could run BTP if the LP nomination fails. But in many states they protect the 2 major parties by making that illegal.

dwp2016:

I just searched on the Colorado SOS site, to be an "unaffiliated" candidate or "minor party" would only require 1,000 signatures; however, you must either have been "unaffiliated" or registered with the "minor party" for the past 12 months.

DanKilo:

I am still confused here. I read that we need at "least ten thousand registered electors" to petition as a minor party and they must be submitted by March 1. Also, I have been registered as a Libertarian for the last 6 years. Because I am not unaffiliated or registered with the minor party does that mean that I cannot run as a BTP candidate?

Additionally, what is necessary for me to do to keep the Colorado BTP alive? How can we work to get the BTP on the voter registration documents in Colorado?

I am running on a criminal justice reform platform. As a candidate for Governor, I can campaign on a message of pardoning those convicted of victimless crimes (see: www.dankilo.com/colorado-governor). Because the LP generally appears to be "confused" about its message I think my platform may be too radical for them and I doubt I will get the nomination. I'd still like to make it on to the ballot so I can connect with those that have been alienated by the CJ system. I think there is a big political opportunity in the country where someone (me, someone else, a political party) could tap into many millions of potential voters by addressing CJ system reform issues and direct them to a political party as their friend.

dwp2016:

Dan,

It seems that Colorado requires voters to register by party. You could have a "voter registration drive" getting new voters or established voters to change their registration to Boston Tea Party.
You only need 1,000 and have until July 1

Your bylaws can say that the "registration requirement" is waived. You should be able to run as the BTP candidate if you get 1,000 registered voters. As long as the BTP gets either 1% or retains 1,000 registered voters, ballot access is guaranteed.

planetaryjim:

This is a very welcome development, Dan!

DanKilo:

Thanks Jim! I have had the idea of tapping into the people alienated by the CJ system for a long time now. I am trying to put my idea to the test and the run for Governor gives me the platform I need to do that.

bstrent:

I nominate Darryl W. Perry for the position of chairman.

planetaryjim:

I second the nomination of Darryl W. Perry for chair.

I will accept the nomination
