Polling issues for current nat-com at-large election
Attention all members,
Updates to the Drupal software have made it nearly impossible for us to post a poll with approval voting, as our bylaws require. The controversy following our last convention was caused by this issue.
While attempting to fix the problem with the current election for the vacant at-large seat, our chair, Darryl, posted a series of polls which were also no structured in accordance with the bylaws. I got creative, and figured out a temporary fix, which is here: http://bostontea.us/node/889
I closed the incorrect polls and posted a comment on each one, instructing members who may have voted that their vote did not count, and directing users to the correct poll, where they could make a vote that counts.
Please go to http://bostontea.us/node/889 and ensure that your vote is counted in the correct poll.

Actually the current installation of Drupal DOES support approval voting.
inDglass:
Where was this knowledge when we needed it?
Thomas L. Knapp:
Right in front of you.
But, as it turns out, you didn't need it -- you came up with an elegant workaround.
inDglass:
We tried that. It didn't work.
Thomas L. Knapp:
Sorry about that -- the module is in beta for this version of Drupal. I see that others have reported similar errors to the one I just got with a test poll.
Like I said, your solution is elegant. It would get silly trying to cover all the possible permutations if there were many more candidates, though. Hopefully this module will get up to speed soon.
inDglass:
Yes. We absolutely need an approval voting structure for a convention election for at-large committee members. There is no way we can handle 4 or more candidates running for 4 seats without it. We really only have 1.5 yrs to figure it out, as we should have it ready for the 2012 presidential and vice presidential nominations.
Thomas L. Knapp:
There's another way. Not as easy for the voters, but doable for the vote counters:
Each candidate gets a poll of his/her own, with the question being "do you vote for this candidate," yes/no.
Only yes votes are counted.
The four candidates with the most yes votes win.
That's how we did it in at least one previous election (I don't remember which one).
Real approval voting works in the "Advanced Polling" module for Drupal -- if that module itself is working. When Drupal moved from 5.x to 6.x, it stopped working. The version I just installed is a beta for Drupal 6.x, and it's obviously still buggy. Hopefully it won't be by 2012.
