Presidential candidate conference call, 06/11/08

Dear fellow party members,

Charles Jay and Robert Milnes, candidates for the BTP's 2008 presidential nomination, have consented to participate in an informal "Q&A conference call." If you'd like to get to know the candidates better, this is your chance!

The vice-presidential candidates have also been invited, but I haven't heard back from Chris Bennett and Todd Andrew Barnett yet. I'll be present, though, and expect that they will be if at all possible. [Update: Chris and Todd have confirmed their participation.]

DAY/TIME: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11TH, 5PM CENTRAL
PHONE NUMBER: 616-347-8200
WHEN PROMPTED FOR PIN, ENTER: 189479#

There's no participation fee, but normal long distance charges apply. There's also no formal time limit, but as host I plan to hold it to an hour or so.

Hope to hear you there!

Yours in liberty,
Tom Knapp

All the candidates were present and spoke. I was the only non-candidate on the call, so I tried to ask some questions on behalf of the members. Tom Knapp will post here a link to the audio for the call so that y'all can listen.

... no recording. I'd had an email from the conference call provider an hour before the call with a link to a recording of a one-minute call (presumably someone didn't notice the time zone), so I thought it was automatic. It wasn't.

Sorry about that. All of you who didn't tune in missed a full hour of discussion with both presidential candidates and all three vice-presidential candidates, egged on by Chairman Jim to lay it on the line with respect to various issues, vision for the party, etc.

planetaryjim:

I would encourage you and Douglass to please coordinate in advance so people know where to call, whether to use landlines or Skype or what have you, etc. If you could follow up with him, that would be a blessing.

Todd Andrew Barnett:

Tom,

Does that mean there won't be a link to the recording?

If so, that sucks.

admin:

Since there's not a recording, there won't be a link to the recording.

As far as coordinating with Douglass, I haven't heard from him. As soon as I get the full scoop on show time, listening URL, call-in number, etc. I'll get it out to the candidates and up on the site.

Regards,
Tom

Tom,

Sorry to highjack your thread here.....I am looking for info on BTP membership from Tn. It is relatively easy to put a candidate on the presidential ticket as an independent here and I would be willing to help facilitate that.

... happens when you register at this site!

I'm not sure if a Tennessee affiliate actually exists any more (there were some questions as to whether that affiliate was real or a shell). If not, why not form one? I suspect the presidential/vice-presidential candidates will be looking for Tennesseans like you to help with the ballot access!

It takes 275 petition signatures to get on the ballot in Tennessee, due by August 21st -- call it 600 since many will be invalid or challenged. A handful of people could manage that in short order. Five members could probably do it in one hard day, and if out-of-state petitioners are allowed some of us might be able to get out to help.

Did not happen for me? maybe I missed something...can I be pointed in another direction for this info?

planetaryjim:

Dear JR,

Thanks for signing in. The node for the Tennessee affiliate is found here:
http://bostontea.us/node/39

It would be great if you wanted to help us organize it.

In order to be a member of this site and post here, you have to agree with the platform of the party. Here is that platform:
http://bostontea.us/platform
"The Boston Tea Party supports reducing the size, scope and power of government at all levels and on all issues, and opposes increasing the size, scope and power of government at any level, for any purpose."

If you feel that it was a mistake, somehow in the registration process, and you don't agree with the platform, no problem. There is a process for resigning which others have used on this site, to post a new topic or a reply to an existing topic resigning their membership.

About hijacking this thread, it is quite easy to avoid in future. At left there is "create content" and at right there is the "more" button for forum topics (under the short list of new forum topics, also under the short list of active forum topics). Click on more and at the top find "post new forum topic."

Welcome here! The interface is not intuitive, takes some getting used to. We're eager for more members who seek freedom.

Regards,

Jim

Todd Andrew Barnett:

If it "did not happpen for [you]," then you would not be posting on this site.

At the top left, there is a registration link. All you did was click on it and filled out your username and password.

Guess what? You're a member because you did sign up on the membership page.

admin:

JR,

After looking at the site registration page, I thought it was not quite as clear as it could have been, so I've changed the language to make it very clear: When you register an account at this site, you're endorsing the platform and joining the Boston Tea Party. There are no dues or anything of the sort. You're in!

Now, as far as a Tennessee affiliate goes, we thought we had one, but it turned out that its chair was from New York and he declined to identify any other members before he "dissolved" it and resigned from the party. So, we're looking for Volunteer State BTPers who want to form a REAL affiliate! Interested?

Regards,
Tom

Tom,

Yes,

I would be willing to help establish a tn. affiliate. I would like some info. on any past or present people from my state that have signed on. Is there a membership database etc? Just give me some info on where to start and I will do what I can. BTW, it was a pleasure meeting you in Denver, my wife says that you have a charming personality.....hate I didn't make to the Old Crow medicine show that you whipped out one of those nights....its all a blur now.....

admin:

JR,

Oh, so now that I'm hundreds of miles away and can't HIT ON HER any more, your wife thinks I'm charming, dammit! ;-)

The Old Crow show turned into something of a nightmare for those who can't hold their bourbon which, as we all know, includes anyone from Tennessee except me (c'mon, JR, prove me wrong!). One person ended up leaving in a wheelchair. Another spent much of the night puking in a bucket and refusing to leave in a wheelchair.

I kept hotel security mostly out of things by rolling my eyes toward Paulie Cannoli and darkly hinting at mob connections ("you don't want to piss off a friend of Fat Tony's, do you? You got a death wish or something? Just pretend you didn't see anything, and this too shall pass with your kneecaps intact").

It was a rewarding spiritual experience and possibly the high point of the convention (apart from the few minutes I spent hitting on your wife before finding out that she's your wife, anyway; and of course the minutes spent hitting on other people's wives, etc.).

Anyway, the membership database doesn't have a "state" field (this thing started with nothing but baling wire, chewing gum and adrenaline and we're still not out of those woods quite yet). Ask around. You strike me as the perfect guy to honcho a Tennessee affiliate.

Regards,
Tom

planetaryjim:

There are some members on our Facebook group identifiable by state. Otherwise, try the existing Tennessee affiliate topic on the forums here.

Our bostontea.us site database does not indicate states.
